The Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology Library was founded in 1959, in the same year with the foundation of Beijing Institute of Textile Science and Technology, and it got its present name in 1988. Presently the library occupies 5,900 square meters, the total floor area of the reading rooms occupies 2,100 square meters with more than 800 seats. At present, it consists in 4 distinctive reading rooms with printed resource, which focus on Chinese art, foreign art, fashion information, and periodical reference books. There are 5 stacks in Chinese or foreign languages. In addition, a multimedia learning center, electronic reading room, the electronic document retrieval room and students' self-learning room are located in the library. Besides, the library has a branch on the north campus with 2 reading rooms and 1 open stack.

Currently, the library has a collection of more than 1,061,000 volumes/items of various subjects and languages, among which there are over 687,000 printed volumes; about 950 Chinese and foreign journals ; over 30,000 E-journals; more than 2,0000  kinds of multimedia resource and 80 database.

To meet the readers need for up to date information, it has launched other services like special lectures, tutoring, online consultation, interlibrary loan / interactive reading, document delivery, VPN remote access, mobile phone information sending services, etc. Moreover, it actively carries out some activities for readers, like trivia contest in the reading-month, “Readers Exchange”, etc.
