The School of Art and Design was established in 1988 as the Department of Arts and Crafts and renamed the School of Art and Design in 2004. There are three teaching departments: Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, and New Media, including four undergraduate majors: Visual Communication Design, Environmental Design, Digital Media Art, and Animation. Each major is a national first-class program. We have one master's degree program in Design (primary discipline) which has been rated as a high-grade and professional key discipline in Beijing that admits undergraduates and master's students nationwide. The Design discipline was awarded B+ in the fourth round of discipline evaluation by the Ministry of Education and won a significant breakthrough in the fifth round of discipline evaluation.
The School implements the policy of open education at multiple levels, through multiple channels, and in multiple forms and has achieved great development and significant reform results in setting disciplines, majors, and training talents. We have 905 undergraduate students and 228 postgraduate students. There are 72 faculty members, including 21 professors and associate professors, 13 doctors, 40 masters, and 33 lecturers with overseas study backgrounds.
We firmly adhere to socialist characteristics in education provision, comprehensively implement the Party’s education policy, take moral education as the fundamental task and focus on the positioning of Beijing as “Four Centers”, the goal of Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei integrated development and major national projects. We have provided landscape visual design for nine Winter Olympics and Winter Paralympics venues. Adhering to the art-industry integration model, we closely follow BIFT’s overall development orientation of a characteristic high-level institute and vigorously promote the development of first-class disciplines. We insist on the teaching concept of combining theory with practice, art and design with modern technology, and fashion trends with contemporary life. Our approach embraces inheritance and innovation, utilizing design as the foundation and leveraging new technologies to break down barriers between majors. We stay current with the latest technological developments and contemporary art design concepts. We constantly explore the laws of design education to cultivate innovative talents with practical abilities and a spirit of creativity for the design and cultural industries. Our approach involves the integration of teaching, research, and practical application to cater to the needs of the fashion, design, cultural, and creative industries at the national and capital levels.
