Liu Jianian,a 21-year-old student from Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology (BIFT), recently presented his personal collection under his self-founded brand NFVZ at the China International Fashion Week held in March 2026. His show, titled “Dual Realms in Splendor”, marks a rare achievement for a young designer to host an independent runway show while still in university.

In 2024, during his sophomore year, Liu Jianian participated in the 28th “Genuine Leather Mark Cup” China International Leather and Fur Fashion Design Competition. His work Novaforge gained early recognition and helped him establish a special creative direction. After the competition, he shared his designs on social media, attracting attention from celebrity stylists. By lending garments free of charge, his work gradually appeared on stage and in fashion magazines. Despite having no funding or team at the beginning, he persisted in building his personal brand, transitioning from the classroom to the professional runway.

At this year’s fashion week, Liu Jianian presented 88 looks from his “Dual Realms in Splendor” collection, which blends avant-garde couture with European elegance. The adult designs feature laser-cut leather techniques, while the childrenswear adopts soft silhouettes. Notably, he invited two young models—a girl with a prosthetic limb and a child with albinism—to walk the runway, embedding themes of peace and kindness into his designs and paying tribute to the uniqueness of every individual.

During the creative process, Liu Jianian made full use of the laboratory facilities at the university and completed the technical realization of his designs under the guidance of faculty members such as Zhu Wen and Yang Hui. He remains committed to balancing aesthetic innovation with wearability. Looking ahead, he aims to position his brand as “wearable avant-garde art,” continuing to pursue craftsmanship-driven and human-centered design, while showcasing the originality and creative strength of a new generation of Chinese designers.
