Carol Ann PRIEST Gives a Lecture Entitled “ BIFT -- A 21st Century University” in BIFT Lecture Room

On the afternoon of May 23, Professor Carol Ann PRIEST, Dean of School of Fashion Accessory and Engineering, was invited to give a lecture on the theme of "BIFT -- A 21st Century University". Members of the Party Committee theoretical learning center group , cadres of section rank, Party branch secretaries of teaching and administrative staff ,representatives of teachers and students listened the lecture. Ma Shengjie, Secretary of the Party Committee, presided over the lecture in English.

Professor Carol Ann Priest has been an Honorary Professor at Nottingham Trent University since August 2015; Nottingham Contemporary Trustee and Board member since 2012; Broadway Media Trustee and Board member since 2007; Glasgow Caledonian University Governor and member of Court since August 2015; Glasgow Caledonian University New York City Board Director since November 2015; and Chair of Nottingham Young Creative Awards Committee in 2016. She has won the Public Sector Nottingham Award for services to Nottingham in 2015 and Nottingham Post Women in Business Lifetime Achievement Award in November 2015.

To begin with, Secretary of the Party Committee Ma Shengjie introduced Pro.PRIEST and the theme of the lecture. He said that Professor Priest had extensive teaching experience, who had taught many subjects including design, textile, and fashion management. Pro. Priest also had rich industry experience, especially in the management of international first-class fashion colleges and universities, excelling at administrative management and business operation.  

In May 2017, on the occasion of the establishment of School of Fashion Accessory and Engineering, BIFT appointed Professor PRIEST as Dean of School to carry out the management and teaching. Up to now, with a rigorous academic attitude and work style, she has been taking the lead in giving advice for the steady and solid development of School of Fashion Accessory and Engineering as well as the internationalization process of BIFT.

In her lecture, Pro. Priest took an in-depth look at BIFT as a 21st century university by comparing it with international first-class fashion institutes.She pointed out that in order to achieve the strategic positioning of the leading fashion institute in China and a world-renown fashion institute, BIFT should work on the following six perspectives: establishing values and goals in regard to localization and globalization; strategic partnerships; quality assurance and enhancement; multi-disciplinary research projects; curriculum enhanced with social/cultural/economic fashion futures; align learning outcomes and assessment with student skills development.

Ma Shengjie spoke highly of Pro. Prist’s lecture. He emphasized that against the backdrop of both opportunities and challenges faced by BIFT at this particular time, Pro. Prist’s suggestions would be extremely important to help us to work out and implement the strategic plans for the institute. He  said that with the excellent international high-end experts, such as Professor Carol Ann PRIEST, joining us, BIFT would go from strength to strength!
