PROF. HE YANG, CURATOR OF THE BIFT, PARTICIPATES IN MILAN DESIGN WEEK'S EXHIBITION “HARMONY WITH NATURE - DESIGN PROMOTES HUMAN SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT COMMUNITY”

From April 17 to 22, the 2018 WDW ASIA Thematic Exhibition co-hosted by organizations such as Triennale Design Week and World Design Weeks, landed at Milan Design Week and appeared on the top Italian Design Hall- Milan Triennale Museum. The exhibition consists of two parts: Beijing Design Week "Harmony with Nature - Design Promotes Human Sustainable Development Community" and Tokyo Design Week "World Flowers".  Nine Chinese designers were invited to the exhibition to explore the possibilities and methods of practicing "harmony with nature" in daily life from the perspective of contemporary China by extracting experience from the design civilization that has been inherited for thousands of years. Nearly one hundred pieces of designs including furniture, clothing, jewelry, and porcelain were on exhibition. 

 

Prof. He Yang, as an invited designer, went to Milan and participated in the exhibition and related activities with the “A Square of Cloth” series of costume design works, whose core is the concept of "Minimize to Mind - Modern Practice of the Costume Structure of (Chinese) Miao People". Based on the structure and methods of Miao costume, her team combined the traditional pattern from Miao People with modern digital weaving and digital printing to create new design to demonstrate the creativeness and connotation of traditional Chinese design ideology and attract more eyes on Chinese costume culture and the intelligence of Chinese rural women.

 

 

Since its opening, it has attracted the attention from all sectors of the community, such as Ms. On. Marina Berlinghieri, former member of the Italian Parliament; Mr. Stefano Boeri, Chairman of the Triennale Museum,;Mr. Aldo Colonetti, former Dean of the European Institute of Design and curator of Milan Polytechnic University, as well as designers, teachers and students in professional design institutes from different regions and industries. They all highly praised Professor He Yang’s works. During the exhibition, Prof. He Yang and her Ph.D. student Li Xin interacted with the visitors actively and introduced them the concept of “Sparing” and the spirit of “Thrift” in the traditional creations contained in the works. With the trinity of viewing, introducing and experiencing, visitors were impressed with the design concept of “Minimize in Mind”, and showed strong interest and admiration for traditional Chinese costume culture and design ingenuity.

At the same time, Prof. He Yang participated in the World Design Week theme forum and accepted the interview with a local media. After the meeting, she received the invitation from the Lima Design Week in Peru in 2021 .
