Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology and The Prince’s School of Traditional Arts Sign A Strategic Cooperation Framework Agreement Dunhuang Fashion Culture Research and Innovative Design Centre in London Together With Dunhuang Research Academy and Dunhuang Culture Promotion Foundation

 

On December 7th in London, the signing ceremony of a strategic cooperation framework agreement Dunhuang Fashion Culture Research and Innovative Design Centre, as one of key agreements at the fifth annual UK-China High-Level People-People Dialogue, was held at Lancaster House. It was co-chaired by Vice-Premier Liu Yandong and UK Secretary of State for Health Jeremy Hunt in the presence of Minister of Education Chen Baosheng, Assistant of Minister of Culture Yu Qun, UK Secretary of State for Education and Minister for Women and Equalities Justine Greening, UK Secretary of State for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Karen Bradley, and other Chinese and UK officials. Party Secretary of Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology Ma Shengjie, Director of the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts Khaled Azzam, President of Dunhuang Research Academy Wang Xudong, and Promoter of Dunhuang Culture Promotion Foundation Dr. Wang Yin cosigned the strategic agreement in a friendly atmosphere.

Guided by the Belt and Road Initiative, in order to promote Dunhuang Culture and fully play the role of a link and bridge between Chinese culture and Western cultures, Dunhuang Fashion Culture Research and Innovative Design Centre was co-promoted and co-founded by Beijing Institute of Fashion Technology, the Prince’s School of Traditional Arts, Dunhuang Research Academy and Dunhuang Culture Promotion Foundation. By integrating advantages of Dunhuang culture & art education and research, cultural heritage, innovative design, social communication and international cooperation and exchange, gathering forces of colleges and universities, research institutions, cultural foundations and organizations, companies and medias, congregating people and resources of Dunhuang and the Silk Road culture research, Fashion culture research, art design, traditional crafts and media promotion, and gravitating outstanding domestic and abroad college professors, industry experts, scholars, designers, artists and traditional craft masters, this centre will further develop Dunhuang Fashion culture research, contemporary innovative design and research as well as its results promotion and build a worldwide platform for preservation of Dunhuang Fashion culture art, cultural heritage, innovative design, talent cultivation and exchange, and results industrialization in an open, tolerant and multi-cultural mode. Besides, with great efforts of four sides, this centre will reproduce the charm and beauty of Dunhuang Culture and lead it into the contemporary era and into the world to make an important contribution to Sino-Western cultural exchange and mutual integration of human society.

Apart from the signing ceremony, Ma Shengjie also attended the round-table meeting of Sino-UK Cultural Heritage Exchange at British Council Headquarters in London to discuss cultural heritage preservation and passing as well as cultural exchange and cooperation with Chinese and UK representatives. In addition, he headed a group of professors to University of Manchester, University of Edinburgh, Central Saint Martins of UAL and University of Westminster to have a comprehensive understanding of their teaching, academic research and international cooperation and discussed possible cooperation of teacher and student exchange and joint-programs with the above universities.

As a part of the fifth annual UK-China High-Level People-People Dialogue, this signing is an approval and an impetus of academic research and internationalization of BIFT. To our delight, the visits of these universities have further widened connections with many British art schools and deepened all round cooperation with old friends.
